Bugaboo has been making pushchairs since 1999 and there’s a reason they’ve stayed at the top of the market for over two decades. They look good. They feel good. And when you push one for the first time, you understand immediately why parents pay a premium for them.
I’ve been following this brand since I launched this site in 2006. I’ve seen them go through the Frog, the Gecko, the Bee, the Buffalo — and watched them refine every generation. The current range is the best they’ve ever made.
But here’s what I always tell parents who come to me asking about Bugaboo: the question isn’t whether Bugaboo is worth the money. It usually is. The question is which Bugaboo — and whether Bugaboo is right for your life.
A pushchair that’s perfect in Amsterdam can be a nightmare in a terraced house in Leeds.

The current Bugaboo range
Bugaboo Fox 5 — the flagship
The Fox 5 is Bugaboo’s premium all-rounder. Big all-terrain wheels, a generous shopping basket, reversible seat, smooth suspension. If you want the best of everything and your budget stretches to it, this is the one. The 2025 Fox 5 Renew updated the carrycot and chassis.
The honest caveat: it’s heavy and bulky when folded. If you’re wrestling it into a small car boot every day, that matters.

Bugaboo Dragonfly — urban, compact, clever
The Dragonfly is designed for city life — compact fold, easy to manoeuvre, works well on buses and through narrow shop doorways. It’s become one of Bugaboo’s most popular models because it solves the problem most urban parents actually have.
Worth knowing: there was a recall on early Dragonfly models purchased before June 2023. If you’re buying secondhand, check the purchase date.
Bugaboo Butterfly 2 — the travel pushchair
Lightweight, IATA cabin-approved, folds small enough to take as hand luggage. The Butterfly 2 (updated in 2025) is Bugaboo’s answer for parents who travel or need a genuine secondary pushchair. Suitable from birth to around 22kg.

Bugaboo Donkey 5 — the double
The Donkey 5 is Bugaboo’s side-by-side double — it can also run as a single with an enormous shopping basket. If you have two children close in age and the budget, it’s one of the best doubles on the market. But check your doorways first. Seriously.

How to choose the right Bugaboo
I’ve seen parents buy the wrong pushchair because they chose with their eyes rather than their lives. Here’s the framework I use:
Where do you live? Terraced house with stairs and a narrow hallway? Weight and fold size matter enormously. Suburban house with a wide hallway and a big car? You have more options.
How will you actually use it? Daily school runs on pavements are different from weekend country walks. Urban buses and trains are different from driving everywhere.
One child or two? If there’s any chance of a second child soon, think about that now rather than buying twice.
What’s your budget honestly? Bugaboo holds its value well secondhand — a good used Fox 5 is often a smarter buy than a new mid-range pushchair from another brand.
A word on buying secondhand Bugaboo
Bugaboo’s build quality means secondhand models are often genuinely excellent value. Parts are available, fabrics can be replaced, and the frames last. If budget is a constraint, a two or three year old Fox or Cameleon bought privately will often outlast a new budget pushchair.
Just check the frame for cracks, test the fold mechanism, and make sure the wheels run smoothly.
