The one-handed fold. For a pushchair this substantial — 12.2kg, large all-terrain wheels, premium chassis — the fold mechanism is remarkably well-engineered. Bugaboo have clearly put serious thought into making this manageable despite its size. It doesn’t change the weight reality, but it makes daily use considerably more practical than the spec sheet might suggest.
What “all-terrain” actually means here
In more than twenty years of reviewing pushchairs, I’ve handled many that claim all-terrain capability. Most mean “it handles dry park paths without complaint.” The Bugaboo Fox 5 means something considerably more.
The 30cm rear wheels and full suspension are built for genuine outdoor use — woodland paths, gravel tracks, coastal walks, muddy fields, uneven ground. Bugaboo include a two-wheel mode specifically for sand and snow (not for use when a child is seated), which tells you something about the ambition of this pushchair. There are very few surfaces the Fox 5 can’t handle in normal family use.
💡 Where this pushchair comes alive
Picture typical UK weekend walks — woodland trails, coastal paths, summer farm parks, muddy autumn fields. The Fox 5’s 30cm wheels and full suspension are engineered to absorb those surfaces without transferring vibration to your baby. I tested it in store across all simulated terrain scenarios available; the wheel geometry and suspension are built for real outdoor use, not just dry park paths. Most competitors mean “smooth paths” when they say all-terrain. The Fox 5 means something more serious.
The weight — be honest with yourself
At 12.2kg with the seat, the Fox 5 is a hunk and a chunk. That’s not a criticism — it’s the direct consequence of the wheels, suspension and robust chassis that make it so capable outdoors. But it needs stating clearly: 12.2kg is something you’ll feel every time you lift it into a car boot, navigate a gate, or carry it up a flight of stairs.
If weight is a daily concern, the Fox 5 is not the right pushchair. The Out n About Nipper V5 delivers strong all-terrain performance at approximately 9.5kg — a significantly lower weight and a significantly lower price.
