The suspension on the iCandy Core 2 is the most impressive we’ve assessed in our testing. It’s the first pushchair on this site to score 10/10 in any single category — and that score reflects something you notice immediately in a hands-on assessment: the Core 2 absorbs surface variation in a way that felt qualitatively different from the other premium pushchairs we’ve assessed.

This capability extends beyond smooth pavements. The Core 2 comes with an interchangeable multi-mode wheel system — urban and rural wheel sets are both included — allowing it to adapt to different terrain and weather conditions. iCandy position it explicitly as a pushchair for city, countryside and everything in between. Build quality matches the suspension. iCandy’s attention to fabric quality, finishing detail and ergonomics of daily use is evident throughout. The basket capacity at 48 litres and 10kg is genuinely generous. The one-handed fold works in either seat orientation — a detail that matters in daily use.

Bugaboo Fox 5 — what makes it stand out

The Bugaboo Fox 5 earns its 10/10 all-terrain score through a specific combination: 30cm rear wheels, full suspension, two-wheel mode and a chassis designed for genuinely demanding outdoor use. From our hands-on assessment, these design choices give the Fox 5 a greater sense of capability on rough ground than the Core 2 — not because the Core 2 is inadequate, but because the Fox 5’s specification extends its range further.

As surfaces become rougher — sustained gravel, coastal tracks, uneven paths — the Fox 5’s larger wheels, terrain-focused suspension geometry and two-wheel mode give it the stronger specification and, from our assessment, the greater capability. For parents who regularly use genuinely demanding routes, that distinction is real.

On maintained pavements and park paths in ideal conditions, the Core 2’s suspension advantage is perceptible. Once terrain becomes more varied, the gap between the two closes, and for sustained rough use the Fox 5 has the specification advantage. Build quality across both is premium — the Bugaboo character shows in mechanical precision and handling consistency rather than in one being better made than the other.

The question that decides it

The Core 2 and Fox 5 are not separated by quality. They’re separated by what each is optimised for. Both are genuinely capable across the full range of everyday use. The question is whether your regular routes include surfaces demanding enough that the Fox 5’s terrain specification makes a meaningful difference to your daily experience.

If you live primarily in a town or city and your routes are pavements, parks and maintained paths — including rougher park paths in winter — the Core 2’s exceptional suspension is the characteristic we’d prioritise. If you regularly use coastal paths, sustained gravel, countryside tracks or routes where the pushchair needs genuine outdoor capability, the Fox 5 earns the specification advantage.
