✓ Fox 5 tested in store ✓ Nipper V5 borrowed from a friend — tested hands-on at home ✓ Specs verified August 2026

The decision in one sentence

Both are genuinely capable outdoor pushchairs — not marketing claims. The Fox 5 is more refined, more versatile and more expensive. The Nipper V5 is lighter, dramatically cheaper, and if someone asked me to recommend one pushchair that could cope with beaches, woodland, muddy footpaths and everyday family life without costing the earth, it would be very close to the top of my list.

Model note: This comparison covers the Bugaboo Fox 5 and Out n About Nipper V5 specifically. Out n About has since released the Nipper V6, which adds a one-handed fold, upright seat option, bigger basket and sturdier handlebar. The V5 remains relevant for remaining stock, outlet, refurbished and secondhand buyers — but if you’re buying new today, check the V6 first.

Out n About Nipper V5

Highly recommended · 9.8kg · Approx. £450 new

Best for: outdoor families who want genuine all-terrain capability at a fraction of the Fox 5 price

Why trust this comparison?

Bugaboo Fox 5: Tested in store. The best all-terrain pushchair we have assessed. Scored 9/10.
Out n About Nipper V5: Borrowed from a friend and tested hands-on — pushing it myself, feeling how it handles, over several hours. Not a showroom examination.
Testing scope: These were hands-on assessments rather than a simultaneous long-term trail comparison. Terrain conclusions draw on wheel design, suspension specifications, manufacturer claims and direct handling. We’d rather be transparent about how this comparison was formed than overstate the evidence base.

The real difference between these two

Both pushchairs are genuinely capable on rough terrain. That’s not a given in this market — many pushchairs claim all-terrain capability and mean dry park paths. The Fox 5 and Nipper V5 both mean something more serious than that.

The honest framing: the Fox 5 is the more complete and refined pushchair. The Nipper V5 is the more rational purchase for most outdoor families. Those are different things — and both are worth saying out loud before you spend any money.

The Fox 5’s advantages over the Nipper V5 are not solely about terrain performance. They include a reversible parent-facing seat, premium Bugaboo finish, strong resale value and a more complete everyday package. The Nipper V5’s 12-inch air-filled tyres and advanced suspension handle woodland paths, gravel, muddy parks and rough everyday routes extremely well. The gap in raw outdoor performance is real but not as large as the price gap implies.

Why air-filled tyres make a real difference

One thing I noticed almost immediately pushing the Nipper V5 was how little effort it took to keep rolling. Even over rougher ground, I wasn’t constantly correcting the steering or pushing harder than expected. It simply kept moving — which is one of the biggest practical advantages of large pneumatic tyres. Think of a bicycle with solid plastic wheels instead of pneumatic tyres and you’ll know exactly what I mean. The difference isn’t subtle.

The trade-off is fair: air-filled tyres need occasional pumping and punctures are possible, just like bicycle tyres. Replacement inner tubes are inexpensive and widely available. For most outdoor families that’s an easy bargain for the ride quality they get in return. If you’d rather avoid any tyre maintenance at all, solid wheels will suit you better — and the Fox 5’s puncture-proof wheels handle this.

Which should you choose?

Choose the Bugaboo Fox 5 if:

  • You regularly encounter demanding terrain and value the Fox 5’s large wheels, full suspension and two-wheel mode for sand or snow
  • A reversible parent-facing seat matters — the Nipper V5 is forward-facing only
  • You want puncture-proof wheels and zero tyre maintenance
  • Bugaboo build quality, finish and resale value are important
  • Budget allows for a more complete and refined everyday pushchair

Choose the Out n About Nipper V5 if:

  • Your terrain is woodland paths, gravel tracks, beaches and rough everyday outdoor use — the Nipper V5 handles all of this very well
  • Weight matters — 9.8kg versus 12.2kg is 2.4kg you’ll feel every day
  • Budget is a genuine constraint — exceptional value for the capability it offers
  • You want occasional jogging capability on even terrain from 6 months
  • You’re comfortable with occasional tyre pumping in exchange for superior ride quality

💡 The honest summary

For many UK outdoor families, the Nipper V5 will be the more rational purchase. Its air-filled tyres, suspension and three-wheel design handle woodland, beaches, gravel and rough everyday routes extremely well — and at well under half the Fox 5’s new price, it delivers exceptional value.

The Fox 5 is the more complete and refined pushchair — offering a reversible seat, premium finish, strong resale value and a more versatile everyday package, not merely additional off-road capability. Whether those advantages justify the price gap depends on how much refinement, parent-facing use and premium ownership matter to you.

One practical note: remaining stock, outlet and refurbished prices can narrow the gap between these two considerably. Compare current like-for-like packages — including what’s included — before deciding the price difference is as large as the headline figures suggest.
