Why trust this advice: MyPushchair has been covering the pushchair market since 2006. Mark launched the site as a dad who couldn’t find straight answers, attended baby shows, and tested hundreds of models over two decades. This page reflects genuine experience — not manufacturer specs or sponsored content.

The Bugaboo Fox 5 is the pushchair that most parents think of when they think of Bugaboo at its best. It’s the flagship — the one that does everything well, handles any terrain, and justifies the premium price tag more convincingly than almost anything else on the market.

I’ve been covering the Fox range since the early versions and the progression has been consistent: each generation genuinely improves on the last. The Fox 5 is lighter and more manoeuvrable than its predecessors while maintaining the build quality and ride that made the range famous. If you’ve pushed one, you understand why parents pay over a thousand pounds for a pushchair.

But I’ll say the same thing I always say about premium pushchairs: the Fox 5 is only the right choice if it fits your actual life. Let me explain what I mean.

What makes the Fox 5 special

The ride. Large puncture-proof wheels and advanced suspension mean the Fox 5 handles whatever surface you put it on — gravel paths, cobblestones, muddy parks, coastal walks. It absorbs bumps that would have other pushchairs juddering. Your child genuinely gets a smoother, more comfortable ride.

One-hand operation. Fold, recline, adjust — all manageable with one hand. When you’re holding a baby or a toddler’s hand, this matters more than any spec sheet will tell you.

The basket. 10kg capacity, easy to access. Most pushchair baskets are an afterthought — the Fox 5’s is genuinely useful for a full day out.

Longevity. From birth to 22kg (approximately 4 years). The carrycot and seat share the same frame, which keeps the overall package more manageable. The Fox 5 Renew (2025 update) improved the carrycot further with a more breathable mattress.

The honest caveats

It’s heavy. At over 10kg, the Fox 5 is not a pushchair you want to be carrying up flights of stairs every day or wrestling onto crowded buses. If you’re regularly on public transport or live somewhere with no lift access, factor this in seriously.

It’s bulky when folded. The self-standing fold is convenient but takes up real space. In a smaller car boot — a Ford Focus or a Volkswagen Golf for example — especially alongside shopping or a dog, it can feel like too much pushchair.

The price. Over a thousand pounds is a significant investment. It’s justifiable if you’ll use it daily for three to four years — it works out to less than £1 a day and the Fox holds its secondhand value well. But be honest with yourself about whether you need this level of pushchair for your life.

Who the Fox 5 is right for

The Fox 5 suits parents who have space — a good-sized car, a wide hallway, somewhere sensible to store it at home. It suits parents who do varied terrain regularly: parks, country walks, coastal paths as well as everyday pavements. And it suits parents who want to buy once and buy well, and who will get full use out of a pushchair for three to four years.

If you’re in a city flat, using public transport daily, or living somewhere with stairs and narrow doorways, I’d be pointing you at the Bugaboo Dragonfly instead — more practical for that specific life, and significantly less money.

Fox 5 vs Fox 5 Renew — which one?

The Fox 5 Renew is the 2025 update — the main improvements are to the carrycot (more breathable mattress, updated fabrics) and the chassis. If you’re buying new, go for the Renew. If you find a good secondhand Fox 5 at the right price, it remains an excellent pushchair — the differences between versions are refinements rather than fundamental changes.
